.XXX is coming. Whilst your brand may have no connection with the porn industry some unwelcome cyber squatters may be thinking about making one!
The registry launching the .xxx domain extension (ICM) will allow a week from now on 7th September until 28th October trademark holders in any jurisdiction the chance to pre-register their trademark before the registration is opened up on 6th December to cyber squatters and anybody else who wants to register a .xxx domain.
Names secured will not result in the registration of a conventional, resolving domain name at the .xxx registry. Instead, these names will be reserved and blocked from live use.
Please note however that any names that have been blocked cannot readily be unblocked and converted into resolving names. Any entity, applying for blocks as a non-member of the Adult Entertainment industry cannot apply for names when the .xxx extension comes generally available on 6th December.
